Anchor Winch Reverse Solenoid wiring

Hi, I looking for some advise on wiring up a new reverse solenoid for our new winch motor, as per the picture can someone advise if the two terminals circled in red are both negative connections?

Cheers Rod.

Not easy is it? I found the Muir winch I installed had two different reversing solenoids!

Here is a couple of links that may help.

Re: Anchor Winch Reverse Solenoid wiring

I've been googling for days to try and verify this, the only one that comes up is a Muir solenoid that does have 4 x switch terminals but I'm unable to find a wiring breakdown for that particular solenoid, the one that was supplied with the replacement motor came from Nilsson's in New Zealand but in trying to get any reply from them is like pulling teeth.

Well here you can download circuit diagrams for 2, 3 or 4 pole solenoids?

Appreciate your input, I've seen those diagrams but still nothing match's this one, the Muir 2 pole diagram is the closest to what we have but our motor is a 3 terminal.

Three terminal motors generally have two sets of windings inside, one for forward and one for reverse.

The middle terminal on the motor is wired to the negative on the battery.

Each of the other terminals are wired to the up and down switches (generally foot switches mounted through the deck near the winch) or solenoids mounted below somewhere if these are used.

If the solenoids are mounted in an enclosure there are generally: a single large + terminal for connection to the battery; two large terminals for connection to the outside terminals on the winch motor; and three small spade terminals ( two positives and a ground) for connection to the remote switch and the ground for connection to battery -.

Two terminal motors require a H bridge, in order to have motor forward and reverse, which contains four solenoids in order to reverse the current through the single winding in the motor and consequently there will only be positive and negative in and two motor connections.

That is how my winch is wired.

My motor is three terminal (Center negative) Two outside terminals up/down.
