Re: Anybody know where to get one of these (Brass Bulkhead Reading Lamp)

Lowe's or Home Depot each has a decent selection of replacement lamp switches, push-on-push-off, or rotary, or toggle.

Here is another one..

I think Ivan is on the right track if your lamps were built in USA.The bulb sockets with switch that he shows are standard US edison lamp sockets.
You appear to be in NZ,so I tried google for a NZ lamp parts supplier & this is what I came up with :https://www.shadyladylighting.co.nz/lampholders.asp
It would help if you could find a mfgr name or mark on old lamp.

Hope it helps/ Len

It seems clear that he is referring to the switch on the base of the lamp for the fan, not the one that is integrated with the bell/socket for the light. He just needs a switch that will fit - nothing specific to lamps. My guess is that the hole for the fan switch is for a 6mm (1/4") shaft - very common. The biggest problem will be to find one that is shallow enough to fit inside the base. It is not clear what type of switch it is - maybe a toggle that is broken off? Anyway it should be easy to replace the switch, it just might not perfectly match the other switches. My guess is that this switch was added at some point and not part of the original lamp so finding a replacement lamp would possibly not help anyway.

Hi,

Sorry for the slow reply. Busy week. Yes its the switch at the base of the light. Here is a better picture:

Cheers

Ok I must have misread which switch you needed I thought it was the switch for the fan.

Re: Anybody know where to get one of these (Brass Bulkhead Reading Lamp)

Confusion reigns. @newhaul: I think it is the fan switch that he wants. It looks like it might be a "rotary lamp switch" that is missing the little knob on top, as you offered, except it would be the shortest shaft version (3/8"). The actual switch mechanism is a different shape, but since that is inside the lamp it doesn't matter as long as it will fit (it will be tight if it does). I don't recall ever having seen a switch with a cylindrical brass shape for the hidden part - I doubt it would meet modern UL/CE standards so may no longer be available, or is only for low voltage. In any event I haven't found one.

I would recommend taking the lamp to a lamp store in NZ or possibly a hardware store (in the US lamp parts are usually stocked in hardware stores) to find a switch that fits. Otherwise mail order one of these:

Brass Turn Knob Switch - MyLampParts.com

https://www.grandbrass.com/item/sw90...ary_turn_knob/

@BigAl.NZ: Please confirm there is a missing knob, or explain how this works (is it rotary or push button?).

A somewhat different switch: https://www.fruitridgetools.com/elec...1a-250v-443bd/

All of the ones I found had 3/8" shafts, so require a 13/32" or 10mm hole.

And an electrical supply house will have even more.

If the OP can't replace the switch, I suspect an electrician can.

Hi Greg. Yes it is the single OFF/ON switch with the left/right pole. See most recent pic.

I found something similar at mouser. https://nz.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...aujmdcARvas%3d

Going to check digikey too.
