Balmar SG200 shows - amps when charging

Just installed a Balmar SG200 which shows a negative number of amps when charging. I had discharged the battery and turned on the battery charger which then displayed-27 amps. Is this correct?

Sounds like the shunt is backwards. Or in the wrong spot.

The shunt is in the correct spot on the neg next to the battery but can the shunt be installed backwards? There is not indications on which way it should be installed. Will reverse it in the morning.

The shunt should be labeled Batt- and Cable. Batt- to the battery, Cable to the loads

Thanks guys.
The markings on the shunt are hard to read.
Should keep glasses on!
Reversed the shunt and all is well.

A nice feature of the Balmar SG200 is that it will show you the time until full charge just like it shows the time remaining until the battery is discharged. I have found the time until full charge relatively accurate.

How accurate is the state of charge reading?

I haven't tried to measure it precisely but it seems very close.

Re: Balmar SG200 shows - amps when charging

The SOC becomes more accurate as the Smart Shunt learns your batteries. This takes several charge cycles. If you disconnect the shunt it seams to have to start over with that calculation. Mine appears very accurate now. I questioned it for a while though.
