Batteries headroom requirements

Hello all,

I'm building a compartment for the batteries under the aft bunk and I'm questioning whether the net height above the batteries is sufficient. What would you say is the minimum required headroom for the batteries to be happy with?

I've never heard of such a concern. Air flow through the battery box to get rid of explosive gas from a flooded battery, yes. That issue has something to do with number of amps, so much air etc.etc.

Probably not critical so long as air flows.

But, be sure to give plenty of room for, e.g., HydroCaps or WaterMiser Caps. Also, you might in the future want to go with taller batteries, like the L16, so leave plenty of room if you have the space.

Unfortunately I haven't got the space, as you know, sail boats are limited in that field. I have come to a headroom of an inch and there's plenty of space between the batteries and I'll add an active fan for during charges.
