Battery Bank

I currently have 2 x 255ah Gell Cell s , which likely have around 40% of their life span left. I want to install 5 new Firefly AGM batteries before leaving for several years offshore. Do I need to install and seperate charger etc to deal with the different type of batteries , since their charging profile is different?

Re: Battery Bank

It depends. If your charger is adjustable then no: just adjust it for the new battery profile. If your charger is not adjustable, then yes. This also applies to regulators for any other charging sources.

Re: Battery Bank

Sterling ProCharge Ultra and ProMariner Pronautic P both allow for custom charge profiles.

Firefly is designed for PSOC conditions, is that why you bought them? Did you get the G31s or another size?

What hard evidence do you have for the GELs' current state of health? What model? Can you link to their mfg charging specs?

What model shore charger do you have now?

What about solar controller(s)?

Re: Battery Bank

You can't mix the two battery banks. You could have separate solar charge controllers, not to expensive. You could change the settings on your main charger depending on which bank you are charging, or have two separate charges, more expensive. But do keep the two battery banks separate.
