Battery charge meter.

I've been told a voltmeter is a very poor indicator of a battery's charge and google seems to support that fact.

Each cell is approximately 2 volts, so a 12volt battery has 6 individual cells. It turns out that a fully charged 2volt cell has a voltage of approximately 2.15 volts. Oddly enough, a fully discharged 2 volt cell has a voltage of 1.9 volts.

Is there a digital instrument which accurately records the state of charge of a battery? Maybe something along these lines?

Re: Battery charge meter.

WOW!! That eLITE battery monitor has got all the bells and whistles! I'll have to check that out.

I'm in WA so a long way from Coffs Harbor. But Andy Slorach of Bruce Roberts Boat Design used to live there and I know him well.

Is your Zeus the original Zeus that Wilf designed, built and sailed?

Re: Battery charge meter.

Unknown history of our Zeus apart from the last 20 years, but not Wilf's methinks as we have a raked stern that came later on...
She was built by Ferrocraft in Brisbane 1985, clearly well built but heavy!

Cheers Greg
