OP just a further thought, some Alpha regulator installations have either an ignition operated relay or a oil pressure operated relay to activate the alpha one. Is that working, something could be loose or faulty here and the regulator is droping in and out.

I had a problem that is like this and all it was I had to do was clean all contacts on the alternator. fixed everything.

So I agree it is a contact point or ground.

Re: Battery-Charging Regulator Problem? MasterVolt Problem?

RJV,
Did you solve your issue? I have the same symptoms (tachometer not showing RPM, alternator not charging), so I am curious what was wrong with yours...

Re: Battery-Charging Regulator Problem ? MasterVolt Problem ?

The bow thruster may have a system to prevent it running unless the main engine is on. If this is tied to the alternator output, the bow thruster will not work when the alternator is not functioning.
It may be worth disconnecting this protective system.
