Battery gas odor with AGMs

My house bank is three Lifeline AGM 120 Ah batteries. When I access the battery area I always notice a slight odor of battery gas. Its not overpowering, but I wonder if this is considered normal for sealed AGM batteries. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Battery gas odor with AGMs

My first thought is that your battery area is not vented correctly.
My second is that the AGMs shouldn't be venting anyway.
My third is wondering just how sensitive is your nose

Re: Battery gas odor with AGMs

no. they should only be venting if they are getting over cooked.

what type of charger is it, and what are your voltages set at for bulk and float? and does it actually drop to float?
