BMV712 Voltage & Temperature

Hi,

If you have seen my other threads this week you will know about the battery issues I have had. I have had amazing service from Battery Town here in NZ so back up and running.

I am now more keen than ever to monitor temperature of both banks. However port the input ports on the BMV712 are used for voltage monitoring.

Is there a way to add to the BMV712 so that I can monitor 2 x temp and 2 x volts?

Or is there a way to monitor batt temp and have the info sent to the NMEA 2000 bus?

Cheers

Al

You'll need a second BMV.
The BMV can monitor only one shunt voltage and temp or one shunt, voltage and a second voltage.

If you want to fully monitor two independent batteries you need two units.

AFAIK there is no n2k interface for the bmv, but you can monitor them by BT on the smartphone or tablet. Maybe the Venus or CCGX supports besides CAN also N2K, but I am not sure.

Re: BMV712 Voltage & Temperature

I would think Venus or CCGX can measure temp from X# of sensors without a BMV present?

I have since found out there is a thing call the Blue Smart Batt Monitor - its a little standalone device that you put on the side of the battery and it sends (to the app) battery temperature. They are only about $60 NZD.

Well sure, how else?

I thought the NMEA 2000 conversion was the critical part; if you search their forums there's a lot of open-sourcing of their protocols there.

But definitely easier if you're OK with just looking at your phone.

NMEA2000 would be nice...but seems only to have $$$ options.

Re: BMV712 Voltage & Temperature

One approach is to install a Victron Smart Battery Sense on each bank and monitor temperature and voltage with the Victron Connect app.

Cheers, RickG
