Dc current low?

Hi All,
My 12V DC saltwater wash down pump was working fine. Then suddenly it wasn’t. Since the circuit tested fine at 12.89 V, I bought a new pump. It didn’t work. Plugged the old pump into a 12 V light circuit. It ran. A fan worked on the light circuit but not the pump circuit. Could something be causing low current?
Thanks for any tips!

Warning I only have very limited electrical knowledge.
But it sounds like a case of a very poor contact in the circuit not allowing enough current to flow. You can easy have ok voltage but inability to pass much current as I have learnt. Check all connections. A sparky type should be along to elaborate.

Re: Dc current low?

corrosion of the wire or switch likely. Can you trim the wire back a few inches and still connect it up? if so open up the wire and see if its still nice shiney copper or turned dark or even black.

The back of the switch also warrants investigation.

Re: Dc current low?

Thanks Pete - the wire is ok. I’m thinking the panel breaker is suspect - will bridge it and check.
