Deca 24m7 12v batteries

I am looking at getting new house batteries. Can the Deca 24M7, 1000 mca 12v battery be used as a house battery? Thanks

Wouldn't be my first choice. If you can't use pairs of 6V golf cart batteries... e.g., Trojan T-105s...

The Group 31 size might be better if you have space and if you're limited to 12V products. Usually these will be marketed as dual-purpose (they will also start engines) or sometimes even "deep cycle" -- although the latter label is often suspect.

And then you'll want to look for "Amp Hours at the 20-hour rate" (not cranking amps) to compare various products.

As far as I know Deka/East Penn makes decent flooded lead acid batteries. See their DP31DT and DC31DT for comparison.

But see also their GC215, GC230, and GC235 golf cart batteries. Each pair wired in series to 12V, actually designed for deep cycling, would also give you more capacity than a pair of 31s.

Not unless you are stuck and that's all that's available.

The 24M7 is a designed as a starting battery, high current for a short duration. The spec sheet doesn't even list a 20hr discharge rate. Performance and life would be poor if used as a house battery. Group 24 size batteries are small, the DC24 is a deep cycle but only rated for 75Ah. Golf cart batteries would be a better choice if you have the room.

Google 24M7 and look for the EastPenn Manufacturing web site to get the spec sheet.

First off, it's Deka, as in East Penn, EPM.

The best battery value by far is their Duracell branded FLA deep cycle golf cart batteries, 2x6V, around $200 per 200+AH pair from BatteriesPlus or Sam's Club.

IMO as good as T-105s, but usually lots cheaper.

Your example is a glorified Starter batt, not designed for true deep cycling usage, and would not last long at all.

I switched to the Deka 6 volt golf cart batteries in series for 12 volt and love them! Good value for the price!
