Re: Disconnect bank before Equalizing ?

Have a look at the voltages vs temps chart in the conditioning section, it varies a lot.

But then some are lucky enough to "follow the 70's" 8-)

Besides phoning +1 909 599-7816, they have a contact form here: http://lifelinebatteries.com/contact-us/

"Feel free to contact us anytime and talk to a real person. We have a full technical support staff here Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm."

And those two are as good as they get.

Lots of people **think** their charger's great, but few have the required level of adjustability.

The absolute worst scenario are the "super intelligent" ones that claim to do everything for you automatically, fancy "pulse desulfation" modes etc.

Conditioning should always be done manually, under human control.

The pulse desulphators have been shown time and time again to do nothing,
I took this picture of the Concorde booth at my IA renewal class this year in Atlanta, zoom in on the battery maintainer they are selling, and see what it says Click image for larger version

Re: Disconnect bank before Equalizing ?

a64pilot: Good info for a Lifeline AGM battery. Thanks.

OP: Please note that the discussion in this thread by a64pilot, john61ct and belizesailor is not relevant to your flooded lead acid batteries (FLA).

All lead acid (flooded, AGM, Gel) batteries have a protocol for equalization. The equalization protocol for many AGM or Gel batteries is: "Do not equalize these batteries." This is not so for Lifeline AGM batteries.

FLA batteries have been around much, much longer than AGM or Gel batteries so the protocol can be a bit more generalized. From my Post #6:

That all said, I suggest you review the requirements from the battery manufacturer and check with the technical documentation for your charger to determine how the charger and the bank will match up.
If the battery manufacturer does not or will not provide the equalization procedure for your batteries, than using your battery charger in Equalization mode while carefully monitoring the voltage and charging current will certainly work.

This really is not complicated but there is a lot more to it than pushing the Equalize button on your charger and walking away.
