He suggested contacting Ocean Breeze due to my 115v 50/60 Hz, reverse cycle, VDT space footprint and other specific requirements. I did so and was VERY pleasantly surprised by them. :-)

I and several friends have Dometic Turbo units. Very happy with them. Quiet.

My take on the Webasto is it's a throwaway, by that I mean like a modern TV, you don't service it, you toss it. The flip side is they have become so reliable that you don't need to service them.
When was the last time you had to have the refrigerator in a house serviced? I had one for 20+ years, replaced it when the door started rusting, but it worked just as good as day one.
Both my AC's are Webasto's, I got them largely due to the price

I have no quell with my 16,000 BTU VDT it has give good and true service for considerable years. The considerable years is the concern, all marine condensers no matter how well made will eventually fail. And Dometics has chosen to cease manufacture of the VDT line. Therefore I have to contemplate a replacement other than a VDT. WEBASTO FCF Platinum is specifically targeted to be such a replacement, so is one of my considerations.

However, for a comparable price to the FCF 16,000 BTU Ocean Breeze is offering to meet or exceed all its design spec but in an 18,200 BTU unit. Which when run at 50Hz would give 15,000 BTU. I would be a fool not to pay it some attention and ask others for their thoughts.

Yes encapsulated AC&R equipment has become very reliable provide they remain encapsulated. Unfortunately aboard ship in the presence of an electrolyte galvanic corrosion is a factor. Which is why I believe our VDT has lasted so long, it has a dry drip pan. Coupled with my ship's Catholic Protection system has slowed the inevitable failure of the condenser. Marine air conditioned I would place a the high end of throw away item at least for my pocket book. :-)

I am considering possibilities now before the VDT has a problem.

Be very careful of some of the name brand big company products. They are made in china and do not use thick wall tubing leading to both condenser and evaporator failure. Especially troublesome if you operate in shallow water or locations with high sediment in the water. Both Ocean Breeze and Flagship Marine are made here in the US.

That is where met or exceed my requirements mentioned earlier comes in. Ocean Breeze is using heavier wall tubing and according to Joe 70/30 copper nickel in the condenser.

They are willing to exploit 115 v capacity to support more BTU capacity at 60 Hz than the big companies by offering 18,200 BTU. All the big companies stop at 16,000 and that is it, any higher capacity and you have to go to 220 v. When the 18,200 is run on 50 Hz it's rating drops to 15,000 which is closer to the nominal 16,000 the big companies offer at 60 Hz.

There was an Ocean Breeze aboard when we join Enough in 1997 so they have been around awhile.
