Does anyone know of a small diesel generator built like the small quiet honda type .

Have a 28 ' Spirit and would love to find a small diesel generator, I only need about 2k worth of power but have only seen gasoline driven type.

Small portable: No. Diesel engines are heavy and not conducive to portability.

I've got a Hatz Diesel 2KW generator set I brought back from Germany when I was there. It was built for the German Army. It's all self contained and in a box that sound proofs it pretty well, about as loud as a motor home generator. It's 2KW at 220V so I think that with a step down transformer it's a 4KW. It starts like an old Model T car, with a hand crank, a compression release is used until you get it spinning and them the exhaust valve is allowed to function, without the compression release it would be a real bear to start. All the small Diesels are a bear to start in real cold weather as there are no glow plugs. Great little generator, only problem is with the box and all, it weighs I think 100kg, 220 lbs.

Around 50% more than the equivalent Honda or Yamaha before you even consider the fact that it's not set up to be portable.

Not saying it's a bad unit. It's just not an equivalent for the quiet portable generators.

Bottom line-
you can't beat the Honda for reliability.
If you carry gas for your outboard, it's no problem.

2 KW at 220V stepped down to 110V still makes it 2 KW but the current capacity (at 110V) is doubled.
