Dual Input Charge Controllers

Just looking for a charge controller that can accept two separate inputs for charging. For example a Wind gen, and solar panels. A controller that will use power from both or either depending on what is running or what time of day etc.

I know I've seen them, I just can't remember from who.

Anyone have info on them?

Thanks guys.

Re: Dual-input charge controllers

No it was more of a smart controller like outback or morningstar makes. It just had a seperate input for another type of charge controlling. Basically allowing you to charge from wind and solar at the same time, or if the wind is down, solar only, etc. It would just automagically combine the two to charge the batteries up as fast as possible.

Re: Dual-input charge controllers

Those are 'smart", the dump load could be a hot water element. Lots of options really.

Re: Dual-input charge controllers

True, I guess I'm just wary since a morningstar or outback charger starts at about 500 bucks. They do max power point tracking, PWM battery charging etc. They don't just connect the solar/wind directly to the load until a trip point is met. Makes me worry about my batteries haha.

Something to keep in mind though any ways.

Re: Dual-input charge controllers

You may be thinking of the Blue Sky 3024 Duo which can control power input from solar and a wind generator simultaneously.

Re: Dual-input charge controllers

That actually sounds right. It does diversion controlling on the load if you hook it up this way which is too bad, rather than series control of the power from both inputs separately. Maybe I was crazy when I thought I read it before, but this unit was probably what I was thinking of.

Missouri Wind and Solar does do some neat stuff that i think I'll be using, cant beat screwing a element into a water heater as a dump load. Thats one thing that will make the wife happy.
