Generac IQ2000 pull rope

Cranked my fairly new lil generator this morning. Cranked right up. Walked by to check it later and found pull rope broken 6" from handle.
No troubles. Just swap out the rope? Nope. Looks like I have to tear down to parade rest to get to it. Including motor mounts.

After disassemble found that one threaded insert had seized on bolt and was spinning. Left it and worked around. Good little genny. Just been left in the weather.

I've had a couple screw me.

I prefer rivets.

The EXACT same thing happened to us. Loved the generator. Didn't want to get rid of it. But Lowe's gave us our money back after we explained how the bolt had seized and was just spinning. Weird.

How much pull cord is left? It seems that you could reassemble the remaining cord to the handle and use it - for a while - that way.
Doesn't seem very trustworthy. I don't like that you cannot field repair the pull cord. Ask around to see who has not had an outboard or generator start cord break.

Or who among us hasn't pull started something with a shorter cord!

I had to turn the engine sideways in order to remove the last bolts but it was doable. Rope replace was a snap after getting the recoil cover in hand. I had bought 50' ft of premium cord a while back.

A pretty sharp buddy brought his EU2000I over for an assist in swapping his rope. It took a couple of hours.

This would have been simple had the last bolt cooperated.

It lives in the weather. I gotta blame my self a bit.

Re: Generac IQ2000 pull rope

Have had 2 Honda EU20001's. On both the starter rope broke withing 3 months of the purchase. Have to take whole thing apart to get to the location. When looking at it you can see that it is not a fair lead from the recoil starter. Funny, but the replacement starter ropes on both held up much longer than the original.

Re: Generac IQ2000 pull rope

Same with the Generac. I bought high dollar pull cord. It is small but looks as tough as my halyards.
