Gino alternator issue

Attached is a photo of my in-laws alternator on his six cyl Hino diesel. Is the round tube on the top an external regulator or ???
If so which wire is the field wire? At present the alternator is not charging. Any assistance greatly appreciated. We are at anchor in rainstorm in PNW, so limited resources.

Re: Gino alternator issue

When I said “roundtube”, I meant the yellowish plastic tube in the photo It has a green and a yellow wire coming out of it. Thanks Ted

And of course “Gino” should be Hino.

Re: Gino alternator issue

No that "tube" appears to be a capacitor.

Without seeing the back of the alternator, it's hard for me to see what the capacitor is connected to, or where the field wire is, but it sort of looks like there are two wires out the back (on the bottom in your photo) one of which might be the field and I wonder if the square box on the side is actually a regulator.

Probably someone who is familiar with Hino engines and alternators will know this.

Thanks. Attached is a photo of the back of the alternator and one of the side view showing the wiring. Hope this helps.

Re: Gino alternator issue

What brand/model is the alternator? In the back photo one can see a label, maybe you can find instructions / parts manuals online
Good luck

Re: Gino alternator issue

After much searching we are now reasonably sure it is a 50 amp Denso alternator with an “IC” integrated circuit regulator. Anybody familiar with these or know how to troubleshoot?? Thanks.
