Ground for wind gen

Hi,
I have a question regarding grounding a wind generator what would be a good source for grounding?
Should I just take the ground and negative tie them together the (neg. battery post) or run to the engine block?
many thanks
Nelson

Your ground wire should be connected to your main ground bus bar if you have one. If your boat is large enough to have a wind generator it should also have a ground bus bar somewhere. You can also connect to anything else that is connected to ground but the busbar is the best location.

What "ground" are we talking about. Is this the DC ground or are you grounding the generator to the boats bonding system?

hooking up a wind gen. 3 wires 1 Pos. 1 neg. 1 ground.
I called the southwest air x tech. support he basically told me I could join the neg. and ground together and hook up to neg. post of battery and the other was to engine block, but advise with someone with marine elect. experience.

I tied mine into the dyna plate , if I did not have the plate I would attach the Green wire to the engine block.

Thank you all for the input.
I think I got enough to do the job with sinking it or starting a fire.
Many thanks

i am curious as to how your positive wire from the w/generator into the battery bank is set up -- will the wind gen charge one battery or more ? are you feeding the wind generator positive output thru a voltage regulating system such as the VSR or 'PathWay' into your battery ? or are you manually controlling the input voltage to your batteries ?

My Air X has a built in regulator that takes care of everything. You just run the red wire to the positive terminal Black to the Negative and Green to ships ground. I did install the optional stop switch and amp gauge. It is a very nice setup.

Hi Mitch
I have 4 6volts batteries so going directly pos. on the first battery and neg. on the last battery and yes going directly to the batteries Air x as a built in regulator.
Hope that answers your question.

I installed it late last season so I don't have much experience with it yet. But from what I can tell so far the sound is not going to bother me very much.

Ok Guy's.
But I do have a small boat, only 26ft and am powered by an outboard. So where the hell do I attach the ground wire. (Will be getting one in September, wind gen that is)

Jackstee,

You must have a battery on this boat if you are putting on a wind generator. Contect the ground to the ground (Neg) terminal of your battery.
