Grounding solar panel frames?

Hi all,

I've just about finished installing and wiring 8 290w panels to four charge controllers (2 panels in series for each controller). All the panel frames have grounding screw holes. Should I ground the panel frames? Why? If so, just a wire capable of handling the panel outputs connected to the frame of the panels then run to the negative battery posts or ground bar?

Thanks!

Hi! It's unfortunate you never got a reply on this - hope you sorted it out.

Do you have pictures of your installation? It'd be nice to see what you came up with for the whole installation.

I believe that they are there to satisfy residential requirements that they be grounded to the house’s ground, in case of a short. Others may chime in, but you should be fine without, as long as your boat isn’t metal.

In Washington state, it's a residential code requirement for lightning.
