Hooking up battery float charger

I am led to understand that keeping your batteries topped up is healthier than recharging them. I have purchased a simple float charger to keep them topped up. I have two banks (starter and house) with a standard Perko switch for 1 or 2 or both.

What is the best way to hook up the float charger? To the Perko switch? How do I attach it to charge both? Do I want to do that?
