How long can diesel genset last?

The Entec 4 kva 120v AC single cylinder 3,600 rpm diesel farymann engine has 1,235 hours. Did a top head overhaul and am planning to go to some remote places ie raja ampat, tonga, solomon, fiji.

The vibration of this unit is quite intimidating. The engine will give out some black smoke when I load up to 24 amps. Or I should be satisfied with 20amps no black smoke which is just below the 70% of 33amps max.

I am a bit concerned about the durability of this unit and was undecided whether I should spend boat bucks to get a new unit while I am in the marina.

I hear that diesel engine last forever, well almost. Read one thread in SSCA.org that his Entec lasted 4,000 hours!

I like to hear what is your experience on diesel gensets? How long do they last?

Appreciate any comments or experience you may have with gensets.

Eric.

ps. I give Thumbs Up to Entec support Doug +13868721473 very helpful.
