How to charge a Uniden VHF handheld?

I asked a while ago - how to charge an Ipad?
Lots great info: Thanks - decided to plug the Ipad cable into a "Cigarette lighter" with an USB port / adaptor".

another question : How to charge a Uniden VHF handheld?

Here in NZ it was supplied only with a cradle & plug for our 240 Volt current.

How do I keep this charged when I'm afloat and no AC current?

(I'm thinking the answer will apply equally to my Head torch that has also only a cradle & plug for 240 Volts)

Re: How to charge a Uniden VHF handheld?

Usually those things have a wall wart that converts household current into a lower voltage DC. On the wart it should say output of XX VDC @ XX Ma. The bra thing to do is to get a DC to DC converter to replicate the wart's function.

12v to 200mA

The box on the AC 240 plug end has written " 12V to 200mA"

Does this mean I'm looking for a 12 volt to 200mA converter?

Re: How to charge a Uniden VHF handheld?

I've got a Uniden Atlantis that is a few years old and if I remember correctly it came with a lead fitted with a lighter plug, in addition to the mains plug pack, which I've since lost. These days I use the 240VAC plug pack and charge it via the inverter.

P.s. the "200 mA" = 200 milliamps which is the current draw which = 0.2 amps. Amps and volts work together to provide the overall power required to charge the hand held.
