How to install a power cable sealing ring

The sealing ring on the 30A Marinco electrical cable has split. I purchased a replacement but do not know how to install it. Is the trick to soften the plug with a hair dryer/heat gun or put grease on the plug and force the ring onto the plug?

If you are talking about the locking ring on the female end might try the plug end. Other than that not sure a nonndestructive solution exists.

How to install a power cable sealing ring

It’s possible to flex the outer case enough as the outer unit is a sometimes supplied in some cases with two loose locking rings of different types. , they can be manlipulated with effort over the end lip. Dump the housing in boiling water can help

Good idea. Putting the end in boiling water to soften the plug is far better than than using a heat gun. Thanks.

Re: How to install a power cable sealing ring

I use a little dish soap and carefully work the ring in place. Use a screwdriver or paint can opener as necessary and very carefully. I would not heat it up any warmer than comfortable to hold. If you do use hot water let it dry completely before putting power to it.

You should be able to muscle on the locking ring.

Re: How to install a power cable sealing ring

Putting the plug into boiling hot water for a few minutes softens the ridge on the plug so that the threaded sealing ring slides right on.
