Who needs a cell phone? Who needs a Laptop?

We have them because we want them not because we absolutely need them.

As for ice? I like it with my scotch.

This trip is not meant to be a hardship, it is for enjoyment.

Re: Inverter for AC Power at Sea

An inverter converts DC to AC. You plug an inverter into your battery bank (DC) to produce AC when shore power is not available. Why would you connect an inverter to shore power which is already AC. If you try this stand back, way back.

Perhaps your are talking about a combination inverter/charger which is the usual way to have both DC and AC available when a genset is not available or usable. When away from shore power your solar and wind generators keep your batteries up and your inverter draws from the batteries to produce AC
