Re: Inverter in diesel engine room -- how bad?

Enclose it in a cabinet with it's own forced cool dry air source protecting it from heat and moisture.

Re: Inverter in diesel engine room -- how bad?

We used to have a Victron inverter/charger located at the back of the engine room on 50ft sailboat. Don't know how long it was there, but within 6 months of us owning the boat it "cooked". Not from heat, but from moisture and corrosion inside, caused by condensation.
The workshop that opened it up said find a cool dry place and now we have it under the sofa in the main saloon. It's cool, dry and easily accessible to turn the inverter on/off when needed.
So that's another point to consider. If access is difficult, you probably won't turn it off when you should and that will affect your battery life.
