Question lazaret

I just bought a Tashiba 31 and found a third battery? I know what 2 batteries are for, but would like constructive input about the third battery. Two batteries are in the cockpit aft lazaret and one in the cockpit port lazaret. Any comments would be appreciated.Rhubarbx3

Re: lazaret

It really depends how all three batteries are connected (or not).

There are plenty of possibilities but without knowing the interconnection details, everyone of them is not much more than a guess.

Re: lazaret

As an example, I once had 31' boat with 5 batteries. One was a start battery, two were in parallel as the house battery and the remaining two were also paralleled together as an "emergency" battery that could supply house or start. I'm not suggesting this was a great arrangement (it grew like the house that Jack built) but it does show that the actual number batteries can be used in quite different ways.

Didn't the PO give any detail or schematic of power supply or some such?

Re: lazaret

Odd's are it's a starter battery as discussed above. One could simply disconnect the hot lead and see what doesn't work, eh?

Let us know what the two batteries are for! That will help us to make informed comment about the third one.

Re: lazaret

We have 4 6-volt batteries for house power and 1 group 24 as the engine start battery. I’d suspect your third battery is similar (engine start).
