Mechanic ruined my generator trying to fix my AC!

yep you read it right. have our boat in Virgin Gorda BVI and the yacht management co let a mechanic on board to try and address it. They were too busy to start the generator and the mechanic ended up somehow filling the entire exhaust with sea water and was coming out the intake which is just above the center cylinder. Couldn't get started obviously and let water sit there for a few days! by the time i got a call and was able to get a diesel mech out to the boat the salt had taken over and the center cylinder is seized in place. Engine toast. Being a 1986 Westerbeke there is no longer parts. Total loss.

New Westerbeke 8kw genset. 11,600.00 USD.

now to fight with the yacht management program at the marina to get their insurance info. Otherwise I'm out almost 20k because some idiot didn't know how to start a generator!!! so frustrating 1600 miles away from the boat!!!

im assuming putting in the new version of the westerbeke is the best option though i hear northern lights makes a great one. But only have a 7kw and a 9kw...

Start with your insurance company. Talk to them about recourse. See if they will cover it and go after the mechanic or management company for you.
