Re: mppt controller with 3 outputs?

Thanks for all the replies...Most helpful. I've now lots to chew on...

Took off the fuse panel yesterday to have a look... Saw predicted rat's nest of wiring... including a strange pot shaped metal thing with some of the battery wires attached to it, as well as a box with "isolator" written on it... Have decided to get an electrician to look at it...

The wiring diagram that Maine Sail and that other chap advocate makes sense to me, and I do think that that's the way to go... just that I need someone who's a little more brave around hybrid British/Thai (Moody lived in Phuket) wiring to do the overhaul

Cheers,

James

A pot shaped metal thing might be an electrolytic capacitor (has two wires coming out of one end? Or one wire out of each end? more like a cab or very short cigar tube than a pot?) installed as a noise filter. Or a diode, if it is "fingertip" sized with one wire coming out of each end.

Is there an mppt controller out there that has 3 outputs? I'm only planning on having 1 80w panel.

Any help/hints most appreciated.

Morningstar do a duo charge solar regulator that charges two separate banks and if required surely you could link a voltage sensitive relay to one bank to top off the start battery.

Rob, if you mean the Morningstar Sunsaver Duo, that's not an MPPT controller.

Hellosailor.... perhaps it has to do with electrolysis... it's about the size of a small jam (jelly) jar...

Will snap a picture of it.

Cheers
