The String Diodes are added in the primary circuit, they need higher voltages (string voltage Uoc), and must stand the Isc current of the string. You can parallel them to lower the through-current and the forward voltage to a better value. The loss is much less if you use higher voltage panels with an MPPT regulator too, it is the relation between the Ump and the forward voltage at Imp.
Thanks for the link! Around 0.5V drop at 10 A is quite good. Interesting that the big resellers don't stock them, it seems.

Re: MPPT question using different voltage panels

they are pretty standard, 65ct each incl. VAT, available in any electronic parts shop, nothing special.

Re: MPPT question using different voltage panels

Question, Are all these EPever and Tracer controllers the same? They look like they are the same, are they using different parameters? I currently have two 100W semi flex panels on bimini, with 20a MPPT Tracer controller. Helped a guy on his boat and he gave me another 100W semi-flex. I'm thinking of buying another 20a controller and hanging this panel on deck when anchored up and run through a similar controller. Also gives me a spare. Anyone know?

Re: MPPT question using different voltage panels

There is so much Chinese junk and counterfeiting. Sure, if you're spending under $20, take your chances, but at least buy from a seller with NQAMB return/guarantee, or on eBay. And if it tests out well get another so you have spares.

But this makes no sense to me, when much more modern, efficient and high build-quality gear is available from say Victron - 5-year worldwide warranty!

And the pricing difference is no more than a couple meals out.

Re: MPPT question using different voltage panels

Outback makes a very affordable PWM controller (in their Smart Harvest line), which is priced to compete with the Chinese stuff. At least you know what you're buying with Outback ...

Re: MPPT question using different voltage panels

The Victron MPPT 75/15 are under $100, newer units with bluetooth built in, full adjustability of charge profile.

And lots of flexibility with MPPT to get high output from all kinds of panels if you come across a great deal locally, not just restricted to low-voltage ones as with PWM.

Re: MPPT question using different voltage panels

Hi folks

Just wanted update my results after purchasing and installing the Victron 100/30 mppt controller and running it with 4 mismatched panel.

I purchased the Victron with the built in blue tooth rather than the one with the dongle.

https://www.amazon.com/Victron-Smart...=AERMGYAT5R869

It was very easy to install and the bluetooth is a great way to see exactly what’s happening.

I am seeing between 10-20% increase based on results from the app.

Remember it’s a hot here in French Polynesia.

Thanks to everyone for comments and suggestions

Re: MPPT question using different voltage panels

Glad to hear that! I take it the panels are all in parallel now?

Re: MPPT question using different voltage panels

We have the 100/30 but with the Bluetooth dongle hooked to a Panasonic HIT 315. Our maximum output we have seen here in Key West over the last 30 days is 1440 Watts but the batteries filed up quickly so I don’t have a good idea for how much we could ultimately produce. It’s rare that you have the batteries drawn down on a perfect Sunny Day with the panels lighted in just the right way.

Did you try in series? As far as I understood MPPT tech, the higher the voltage is the more it shows its teeth. Partial shading might be an issue in series, depending how quick the Victron software reacts...
