New Tariffs on Solar panels in the US

Todays news--

"The Commerce Department has imposed preliminary anti-dumping tariffs ranging from 26%-165% on Chinese and Taiwanese solar cell/module imports. The tariffs come on top of the anti-subsidy tariffs imposed in early June, and in spite of a WTO ruling declaring that U.S. solar tariffs violate global trade rules. China’s Commerce Ministry condemned the U.S. for setting the new import duties and said that Washington’s actions risked damaging the industry in both countries."

Maybe you should wait to buy solar panels until you leave the US--this should make a flood of cheap panels available elsewhere.

Just as long as they few US manufacturers don't take this opportunity to jack up their prices.
Of course they will, it's just business isn't it?

No, I'm sure they will take this opportunity to increase power output, increase yields, decrease weight and lower prices while providing better warranties and superior customer service.

Now where's that extreme sarcasm emoticon?

LOL

Just bought 2 135 watt panels made here in Canada
The cells I am sure are off shore
Paid 250 for both.

I would like to point out that China imposed a 53 to 57% tariff on US and Korean made polysilicon (ultra pure solar raw material) about a year ago because the claimed it harmed their industry.

So, this is a tit-for-tat and in the end, where do you suppose those tariffs end up? I'm sure they go right into the coffers of your local elementary school. It's just a convenient way to raise taxes when you can't afford to raise taxes because you economy is in the dumps. Or living on borrowed time, like the US economy.

How much of a cost increase of PV panels in the U.S.A. does this mean?
