Northern Lights 673 output breaker

Hello. I bought a used 6kw NL673 generator. It can be wired for 120 or 240 volts but I'll only be using 120 volts. The output breaker is 2 30 amp breakers tied together. When I Googled the part number it said it was a "240 volt 30 amp breaker".

6kw at 120 volts should be 50 amps and that is what the wire is sized for (#6) and that is the size breaker I have at the generator / shore power switch 20 feet forward from the generator.

If I am using say, 40 amps at 120 volts will the 30 amp breaker trip? Note that there doesn't seem to be an option in the Parts Manual for a 50 amp 120 volt breaker.

Attached are the relevant wiring diagrams

A few weeks ago I asked about building a homemade plywood sound enclosure for it. I have access to a similar generator (NL643) with a factory sound enclosure and I am copying that using aluminum angle pieces and aluminum panels. When I'm done I'll dig up that thread and post pictures.

Thank you very much,
Gregg

Re: Northern Lights 673 output breaker

In that diagram each of the 2 outputs is breakered with a single pole. And then joined after the breaker. So you can pull 60a before either 30a blows. . As only half is in thriugh each breaker. 30a from u1-v1. And 30a from u2-v2.

I would add a 50 or 60a double pole breaker externally on the lines leaving it. To meet abyc.
