My inverter runs 24/7 whenever we're unplugged from shore power (other than winter storage). Idle draw is 0.8 amps at 12 volts, so nothing terrible. It's more convenient to have it always on, plus it keeps the ice maker cold and happy.

Never turned ours off either. I happily gave up idle power loss for the convenience of AC power all the time.

I despise the cigarette power plug. So unless it can hardwired, I'll use AC every time.
