PWM Controller for Adjustable Field wire

Hey all, so I have a beefy 200a alternator that bogs my engine down at idle at full field. I have a dc 30 amp PWM motor controller. Would that work to manually adjust the field current? If so is there anything else I should include on the circuit?

This is the one I have:

Re: PWM Controller for Adjustable Field wire

Interesting idea.
I’d pay attention to a few things though.
This first one is a biggie.

The alternator likely has the field common and one battery terminal tied together. Will this device support that or does it require a floating load?

this could be a real electrical noise generator. Depends on the design

12 kHz is in the audible range. Will it be acoustically quiet?

Salt environment. Will it survive?

Regarding the field common, don't see why that would matter. Yeah tye 12khz thing is terrible design. But so are 20khz, I can hear them both. It's harder to find 24khz devices.
