Quick Battery Charger Question

I’m no electrical expert but I’m trying to understand how my battery charger works and what sort of input is needed to maximize its use (mainly thinking of when charging off of a portable generator). Mine is rated at 50 amps but the shore power is only 30 and the generator puts out 18 I think. Do you essentially hit the 50 due to the AC to DC voltage step down from 120 to 12 which increases the amperage that is supplied?

Re: Quick Battery Charger Question

Yes.
The 50 Amp output rating is at 12 volts nominal [14A], so roughly 700 Watts, which is less than 6 Amps input at 120 volt.

Thanks Gord. Good to know that the charger will have a pretty low impact on the generator.
