Regulator & Alternator connections

Hi, I am stumped.

Unable to get my original alternator repaired, I resorted to acquiring an ACDelco 120a with the 4 pin plug. The contacts are marked S F L P. I’m fairly sure that L is the charge light and P is for the taco’

I am also replacing the exterior regulator with. Type T, this is marked F 2 3 4. I think the F is the field connector which goes to F on the alternator but am stumped as to the 2 3 4 connections.

I’m hoping you are able to point me in the right direction.

Looking on the bright side, I’m anchored in a beautiful bay in Croatia

Thanks
David

Re: Regulator & Alternator connections

Hi Gord,

Thanks for your quick reply but my regulator is numbered F, 2, 3, 4.

I have no idea how this equates to P, L, F, S.

I have spent all day on Google trying to fathom this out.

Re: Regulator & Alternator connections

You can not hook up an external reg to a regulator alternator. The alt needs to be modified for external feild. The shop that does it needs to label where they put the field.

The reg would generally have power, ground, ignition. Abd field. output to reg.

A good one would also have voltage sense and alt temp.

Re: Regulator & Alternator connections

Thanks for that Smac, I thought I purchased an externally regulated alternator? I guess I will have to check it out.

What makes you think my alternator has an internal regulator?
