Yes, very far fetched. In fact the opposite is true.

OP is sorted now, sockets wired the wrong way.

if the pos contact on the fixture is blue and reads neg and the breaker is blue then something is crossed back down the line. just swapping it at the fixture will be just as out of color code as changing it at the breaker. but changing it at the breaker might short something out down the line at the neg wire, as there is a cross over at some fixture in the circuit. So your work is cutout for you as you'll have to follow the circuit back to find the cross over.

Most LED's are polarity sensitive. Check that the positive post in the bulbsocket is indeed positive and the negative negative. Incandescent DC bulbs aren't affected by reverse polarity.
