Replacing Guest Anchor/Tri-Color bulb

Greetings,

We have a Guest combi light at the top of our mast. This boat is new to us and we would like to replace the anchor/tri-color bulb(s) with LED's. The only documentation that I could find says Guest M-35 and Guest bulb part number #P17401 and a caution to pull the bulb straight out without twisting.

Does anyone know of a direct replacement LED bulb, where they can be acquired and advice on how to get at them (tools necessary or just unscrew the outer lens housing?)

Thanks so much for your advice,

Thom

Here it is:

But it's not recommended. Just putting an LED "bulb" into a nav light designed for incandescent bulbs, does not make it an LED nav light, and it is not likely to even be legal.

And you'll have all the same potential for corrosion, bad contacts, etc., which real LED nav lights don't have.

The big advantage of LED nav lights is that they are totally sealed. I would just replace the whole thing.

I use this for Tricolor/Anchor:

Re: Replacing Guest Anchor/Tri-Color bulb

Dockhead speaks with wisdom. LEDs are narrow frequency range, usually bluish, while incandescents are broad frequency and yellow to red. They also tend to be "corn cobs" while incandescents are close to point sources. You can't rely on an LED that produces the same number of lumens as the incandescent as a result of both. After it goes through the red or green plastic filter, it may not meet the "visible X miles" that the law requires.

If you replace just the bulb, make sure you get one rated for your specific fixture, for the exact reasons tk just mentioned. If you cannot source such a bulb, replace the entire unit.

Re: Replacing Guest Anchor/Tri-Color bulb

Replacing the entire unit with a LED sealed lamp would be the right way to go.

I have the Aquasignal Tricolour lamp designed for an incandescent bulb. When l replaced the bulb with a white LED equivalent, the green became turquoise and the red became pinkish and from a distance it was difficult to read.

I then fitted one of Mast Products coloured masthead LED's, coloured meaning that green, red and white LED's are fitted in the appropriate sectors.

Works really well.

Hi Thom,

I replaced the masthead light with LED on our Pacific Seacraft 37 last year with a Marinebeam unit (Smart LED Tri-Color, Anchor Light, and Strobe (N3-TRI-CMB). Works great!

Seconded, these are excellent. Correct colours and seriously bright without fear of interference or fading.
