Second alternator mounting

I am thinking about mounting a second alternator on my boat. I have a Yanmar 3JH5E from 2012. I am thinking of mounting and extra alternator to charge my Lithium bank quicker.
Is it possible to rigidly mount and alternator while the engine floats on its mounts?
If so, how so?

Cheers

Ah, no, if the alternator is mounted off the engine and belt driven then the odds are that belt slippage will dramatically reduce the output and increase belt wear. The engine vibrates and anything belt driven needs to be bolted to the engine.

Re: Second alternator mounting

I had a water pump">raw water pump mounted off the engine.
Ford Lees
The engine mounts were close to inline with the crankshaft (height and plane)
Pump was driven from the crankshaft pulley.
Pump mounting frame flexed sideways to match the arc of the engine.

Constant source of worry, adjustment and inspection.

I ended up fabricating a 6 mm steel shim for the sump that included a gusseted
mounting flange for the pump.

Problem solved.

Re: Second alternator mounting

Maybe it mount be easier to mount it directly off the from of the engine on a PTO shaft using a car from wheel drive setup?
