Re: Shore power cables

they are not slightly different. they are totally different.

one is 30a 120v. one is 50a 120/240v .....

what does your boat have and what does the dock have.

Re: Shore power cables

The one on the right is a NEMA standard L5 30A plug for 115. Very standard on boats and RV's.

The one on the left is a California standard CS6365 50A.

There are adapters available, just figure out which configuration you need.

That's interesting. I also have both on my boat and when I'm plugged into 30A, there is a "parallel" switch on my AC breaker panel that allows the 30A to power both sides of the panel; with limitations. We can run the water heater or the A/C. If we're doing dishes it's fine, but if you want a shower, we turn off the A/C while the water heater is refilling and heating. Once it's done we can turn the A/C back on.

When I'm plugged in with 50A, it's split between both panels and again powers everything and we can shower and run the A/C.

I find it weird that you would need to have both plugged in, one for DC and one for AC? Is this common?

Re: Shore power cables

go to www.marinco.com or another shorepower cable company and LEARN what each of those plugs is really for. A little knowledge goes a long way. Calder and other good boat electrical books also show this kind of info.
