Re: Silentwind generator control, LIFEPO4

Thanks for that reply - very useful.

LIFEPO4 banks must not be over charged so if I can get control over the wind generator controller with a BMS, then I will be able to stop rotation in case of a HVC event and keep it stopped - to protect the LIFEPO4 -.

At least that's the theory.....

I'm hoping that some smart people has done this before and can chip in with some knowledge...

Re: Silentwind generator control, LIFEPO4

IMO more complication, and not really required. The Batt monitor should have an alarm. If V goes too high, it will sound. The Silentwind controller has user adjustable voltages for cut in/out and is a regulator.Set it to suit your batts.

If you really want, pretty simple to pull the switch on the controller, wire the BMS control to that switch. Then the BMS can turn off the system if the silentwind controller fails. Any 1/2 decent electrician can do this. Good luck !

I will look into that suggestion, it appears to be the answer I was looking for. Thanks.

Re: Silentwind generator control, LIFEPO4

Can the "Load output" on the Silentwind controller be used to connect a dump load in case of too high RPM - or is the "load output" function not designed for this?

Re: Silentwind generator control, LIFEPO4

If the Windgen over-speeds, the regulator will switch it off - into brake mode. If that is not happening, the controller has failed. As it has already failed, connecting the load output to anything may or may not have any effect. I would not rely on this as a backup!
Again, the Silentwind will not over rev, unless there is already a failure...

Re: Silentwind generator control, LIFEPO4

What could/would/should the load output be used for then?

Re: Silentwind generator control, LIFEPO4

You could hook it to a hot water tank element to heat the water when you have filled the batteries, turn on a buzzer to let you know the batteries are full, turn lights on, trickle charge a second battery, run a dehumidifier....
