Small Inverter Install

I am installing a Victron 12/500VA inverter. I have a shore power system but the inverter will be separate. I will plug directly into the inverter to use it. The manual mentions:

"Local regulations may require a true
neutral. In this case one of the AC output wires must be connected to the chassis, and the chassis must be connected to a reliable ground: see appendix A."

Do I need to do this? I will ground the chassis.

Re: Small Inverter Install

If you are just plugging single devices into it. I would not worry about it.

If you were trying to feed it into an ac panel or ac transfer switch, then yes. Abyc says the ground and neutral must be bonded while inverting.

Re: Small Inverter Install

Interesting it says one of the output wires, one would hope it would not be the hot wire that you would connect to the chassis, that then is grounded, but the neutral.

However I agree, if it’s not incorporated to the boats AC electrical system, then in my opinion you don’t need to bond the neutral to ground, which is what they are saying but in a round about way.

Interesting that it’s rated in volt amps and not Watts too.
