Solar switch/ breaker

Finishing installation of new solar system. 400 watts thru Victron MPPT 100 / 30 to battery.
Research shows agreement that a breaker switch is needed.
What is not clear is where to put the switch? Between the panels and the controllers or between the controller and breaker. Seems an obvious question but need some help finding the answer.

Breakers or fuses are placed everywhere that a downstream short to negative could produce wire insulation melting current.

I prefer solar > charge controller > fuse or breaker > battery > fuse or breaker > branch loads with smaller wires and breakers.

No need on panels.

At the battery yes.

Then for loads, on the current source side.

Sized for distance, 20% over max intended load or highest 10% under wire's max carrying capacity.

Buy known quality brands.
