source for battery jumper cables and primary fuses

Hello. Finally starting my electrical rebuild... I am building my battery box for 8 6 volt golf cart type batteries and am looking to source those nice premade jumper type cables and three high load fuses for this compartment.. 1 to the inverter, 150 amp-ish, 1 for the house panel@ 100 amp, and one to the windlass at 150 amp. Longtime lurker, please don't bash me!

If you have a cripping tool much cheaper to make them yourself. Much! Any battery place is going to charge good for them.

This is one of those times it doesn't pay to cheap out. Either get the right crimping tool and marine cable and fittings and do it yourself, or pay a marine electrical supply store to make them to your requirements. Read mainesail's pages on crimping tools before buying one.

Yes genuinedealz is very reasonable, $1 per crimp, and top quality components.

Measure twice!

+1. Exactly the place I was going to recommend and free shipping. Battery places will use wire for welding for their jumpers.

Re: source for battery jumper cables and primary fuses

I would only use a local shop if I really trusted their "professionals" or could DIY with their (known good) tools and provided the wire & fittings/supplies myself.

Maybe 10% would be up to genuinedealz level standards.

I will add another recommendation for GenuineDealz. A better job that you could do yourself unless you invest $100 or more for a proper cable crimper and only slightly more than buying the cable.

Re: source for battery jumper cables and primary fuses

The crimping tool required for 50A and larger capacity cables is not the type to be found at your local home improvement center. They are quite pricey (> $100) and often involve hydraulics to boost the effort required to properly and evenly crimp the lug onto the end of the cable. Do not try to crimp the power lugs using alternate methods (such as hammer and chisel) as a bad crimp can fail at an inopportune time resulting in loss of battery power or shorting out a battery or battery string with explosive results.

Re: source for battery jumper cables and primary fuses

Using a nicopress hand crimp tool (West Marine $50) for crimping lugs on large electrical cables for years. Not fast and some limitations on sizes but for ocassional battery cable fab has worked out fine.

Blue sea is the go to outfit for high quality fuses and blocks.

Assuming you are hooking all those GC batteries in 12 Volt series/parallel, the available fault current will be quite large. Probably need a class T fuse somewhere in the main protection. Type ANL for the distribution legs.

I posted a few pictures several years back if you click me.
