Source for Kohler Genset Parts?

I need some parts for my Kohler 6.5kW diesel genset, including a fairly expensive bit, the heat exchanger. I'll be in the States in a couple of weeks so I'm quite sure that it will be much cheaper to buy them there rather than in the UK.

But I can't find a real dealer of parts. I have already written to two or three firms advertising in the 'net, and they all turn out to stock nothing, have no information, be unable to get any information, then they expect me to pay a drop shipping charge on top of the full retail price of the parts. This is ridiculous. Does anyone know a good company in the U.S. that sells Kohler parts, preferably at some kind of discount, and actually stocks them and knows something about them?

Dockhead,

Try RPM Diesel - Diesel Engine Repair, Service, Sales

They have worked out quite well for me over the last few years. I would suggest calling them, their online inventory listing is not always accurate.

Good Luck

Yanmar makes the engine, but it's marinized by Kohler, so that won't help. Besides Yanmar parts are distributed by a monopolized territorial system with no discounts anywhere which I have been able to figure out.

Re: Source for Kohler Genset Parts?

You have to use an autherized dealer like Gord and Opie said. Try to order early enough that you don't have to pay for fast freight. Both Kohler and Yanmar are very tight lipped about part numbers. I wound up having to pay $10+ shipping for a $6 oil filter because they would not give a generic cross reference number. (There was a NAPA within walking distance of the boat.) Fan belts (well gen/water pump belt and water pump">raw water pump belts) were the same issue. I bought several of each and put them in stock on the boat. Needless to say if I replace the boat or genset I will be looking for a generator with Kubota power. Most towns have a Kubota tractor dealer so you will be paying tractor prices not boat prices.
