Storage temperature of AGM's

What is the long term effect of leaving an AGM battery exposed to high temperature while stored?.....

No one biting? I'll make it a bit easier to understand why I'm asking..

I have one AGM battery which has been stored under the cockpit seats for about 3 sunny month, exposed to tropical sunlight. I'm guessing the temperature reaches around 110 -120 degree F during daytime...

The battery is not connected to anything so is neither discharged or charged.

Was the battery fulled charge before storage? If so, it should be OK but is possibly down to about 50% SOC or less.

I doubt it was fully charged. It came from another storage place and was placed in the cabinet by some maintenance guy who forgot about it..and I don't want it if its damaged...

In which case, I'd assume that it is deeply discharged, sulphated and does not have long to live. At those temperatures, the self-discharge rate would be a lot higher than normal and the battery has probably sat for a long time at a low SOC and built up a lot of sulphate.

I am in the throws of a learning (read expensive) expereince on AGM batteries. I live in Dubai and have had to replace all 4 of the Victron 165aH AGM's after just 3 yrs!

I found this on their website:-

Temp seems to have a huge affect on battery life!! I am looking at ducting some of the AC air into the battery compartment.

Anybody have any ideas on a better solution?

That's a pretty brutal chart from Victron. Says at 40c/104f you only get 2 years out of the battery.

I have ducted a small amount of AC air to my bank, it keeps them about 70 F. Used a piece of cheap bilge pump hose, the cheap flexible type.
Of course make sure your charging source has a temp probe on your bank, this gets more important the hotter the bank gets.

In hot weather, the cooler you can keep them, the better.
