Towed water generators at higher speeds?

I am looking for input from those who have towed water generators, such as the Aquair unit, and use them when sailing in the 6 - 12 knot range. Seems that these units show output specs mostly around 6 kts or so and I am wondering how one of these units might work on my catamaran. Thanks

Re: Towed water generators at higher speeds?

I had a gimbaled towed water generator that I used a few times sailing across the Pacific on my catamaran. I did not use it that much because it was a hassle to set up,and the towing line had lots of twists/hockles in it with very little use. The towing line was very stiff, and it was the right line that came with the generator, but it still got lots of twists. I don't know what the problem was, and I just gave up trying to use it. I guess if I did not have plenty of power from other sources, I would have persisted in my efforts to work out the problem.

Re: Towed water generators at higher speeds?

I believe they make different pitched props for faster speeds. It sounds like the prop had too much pitch or the generator is not turning freely.

And if you can afford it! Wow! They sure are proud of that thing! About 8 times as expensive as the ampair unit.
