Re: Triskel power generation system on Distant Shores III

So it requires a 48V bank? That you then down convert to either 28V or 14V?
So do you have multiple devices to do the voltage conversion?

Re: Triskel power generation system on Distant Shores III

56V is just ballpark Vcharging for 48Vnominal.

Is that fitted with a VR descended from Al Thomason's SAR open source vsr sar Very Smart Regulator / "Smart Alternator Regulator" project, like the APS-500?

What other 48Vnom VR options are out there that can both customize voltage setpoint and throttle back on current produced?

It's very compact and can fit into most stock alternator positions. Attached graph shows impressive output (also over 8kW). However, note that it has to spin really fast to reach those #'s. Their 28V HPI does bit better at lower rpm however peak output in kW isn't nearly as much.

The Integrel is able to reach it's output at much lower rpm than the HPI 56V, utilizing a special type of rotor that....well...I don't know if I'm allowed to say. Not that I fully understand it anyhow...
Thanks. As I suspected there must be something quite funky going on inside the unit then. Interesting.

Seems going higher voltage is a smart move, not only for efficiency but also to keep wire sizes down.

Yes I think so. On the website it says the system comes with dc/dc converters.

I am glad you're back.. Any chance you can tell us more about the black box ? How does it "know" about not overloading the engine ? Is it compatible with older engines (e.g. 4JH4E) ? Any modifications required ?

Higher voltages have just about every advantage going for them, the electric car and hybrids are running in the hundreds of volts.
Can get complex and also expensive, but has many advantages.
Only drawback is at some point you have to use the same safety standards you would with mains power.
