Two mppt's

On two different threads recently ive read about cruisers dividing their solar panel imput between two seperate mppt chargers with the result of the chargers fighting each other with the result being one of them heading into float mode earlt?

Any thoughts on this?

With the solar upgrade on my boat I'm considering two chargers,

a: redundancy
b: help regarding shading?

Interested in opinions regarding the use of two chargers.

Cheers Dale.

Re: Two mppt's

We have run 3 MPPTs for close to a year. They work fine together.. Google it for an explanation as to why and how!

Re: Two mppt's

We have two Sunpower 140Wp Panels and two Votronic MPPT165 regulators, both charge the same bank.

Works fine and is the most efficient way and also gives good redundancy.

Re: Two mppt's

I have a separate Victron MPPT controller for each of my four solar panels. The theory is that this allows you to get the maximum out of each panel. I've been very pleased and haven't seen any downside (other than initial cost) to having separate controllers. I also like that you can add a Bluetooth dongle to the Victron controller and use their App to monitor charging.
