A couple of thoughts, take them for what they cost:

I did an image search for "ample power 1021a schematic" which brought up this image:

If you cant figure out the colors maybe someone else here who has a better monitor than what I am looking at presently can see. I will be home later tonight and can use a monitor with better color resolution.

Additionally, I do not know the scale of these pictures so I am guessing they are 1/8 watt resistors. Since it has overheated I would suggest replacing them with the next higher wattage, which would be 1/4 watt, unless these are 1/4 watt then go with 1/2 watt.

You'll have to solder it in like this:

but nothing wrong with that and in fact gives them better cooling anyway.

You can also try finding out who got the panel, and if they might be able to take a look on the actual board for you.

Also, since you are going this far you might consider replacing the adjacent capacitors as well. One more thing is to look at the back side of the board and check for heat discoloration for any other components.

Not sure on the colors. Maybe orange, ?? It is better than my burned up one.
I did take it apart and found a small wire burned in two and another place where there might be damage to the board just above the wire. Will show to my EE son. I ordered a "get me home" regulator, Balmar ERS-Kit, and will try it to use for now and it will be a good spare.

Looking at your board, you might be better off seeing if the guy in the link who ended up with that other board is using it, or if he might be willing to part with it.

Not to discourage you from fixing this one, but if there is more than one component damaged on an item you always run the risk there is other damage that has just not surfaced yet. Congrats on getting a second get home option at any rate.

Well that all sorta sucks...

I am not a board level repair it kind of guy. As MBWhite says there may be other components failed.

at this point I would be considering a new regulator as well.

Son is an Electrical Engineer and thinks it can be repaired. The wire on the back was added as a repair and can be replaced, the resistor we guessed was Orange, Brown Gold Gold and maybe 3.1ohms. We looked at it on his laptop and on his 42"tv too but it is hard to tell the third ring. So I am still open to getting a definite on the colors on the resistor and will try to repair this one. I asked Larry on Trawler forum and he had given away his APC 1021A. I also ordered the Balmar ERS-kit, a get me home regulator that was only $50 and will be good as a spare later. I called Balmar and the tech was helplful, better than APC where I was unable to talk to anyone.
Tomorrow I won't be working on the Glander, but crewing on a FISH sailboat in a Race for the Cure leukemia event. Should be fun. I try to sail as much as I work.
