Westerbeke 7.8 kW gen set water temperature gauge

The water temperature gauge on my Westerbeke 7.8 BDT stopped functioning. I figured it had to one of two things, the gauge or the sender unit. Replace the gauge first (easiest to get to) and that didn't do it. Next I replaced the water temp sender unit, the single wire one because I think the two wire sender is the auto cut off when it gets too hot. That didn't do it either. Now I am stumped. Should there be a voltage on the single wire between the sender and the gauge? Any other suggestions? Gen sets is running fine, just not registering the water temp.

If the sender is OK and the gauge is good too ... then there is a lose / cut wire somewhere along the way, I think. Check the wires with continuity meter - while keeping them disconnected from both gauge and the sender/s.

BTW temp meter is resistance based. I think.

Temp alarm is an on/off contact (on this one removing the wire at senter and touching the engine block beeps the horn).
